Cryptocurrency Mining Rig Build – Feb 2018

I was recently tasked with putting together a GPU mining setup for a client with a $1500 budget and certain requirements. I am sharing the component list used for the build here so that anyone else with a similar budget and similar requirements can have an idea of what to select for their system.

This build allows for expansion of up to 6 total graphics cards. If your budget is lower, you can opt for a cheaper motherboard with less PCIe slots, a cheaper power supply with less wattage capacity, and maybe a different case.

Also keep in mind that there are better and higher quality components available, but for a higher price.

This setup can be used to mine Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Zcash (ZEC), and any other cryptocurrency that uses a GPU mining algorithm.

Here is the parts list for this build:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z270XP-SLI LGA1151 Intel 2-Way ATX DDR4 Motherboard

Processor (CPU): Intel BX80662G4400 Pentium Processor G4400 3.3 GHz FCLGA1151

Memory (RAM): Ballistix Sport LT 4GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin – BLS4G4D240FSB

Storage (SSD): Silicon Power 60GB SSD S60 MLC High Endurance SATA III 2.5″ 7mm Internal Solid State Drive – SP060GBSS3S60S25AE

Power Supply (PSU): Corsair HXi Series, HX1000i, 1000 Watt (1000W), Fully Modular Power Supply, 80+ Platinum Certified

Case: Aluminum Stackable Mining Case Rig Open Air Frame For ETH/ETC/ZCash

Risers: Mailiya 2-Pack PCIe Risers Dual Chip PCI-E 16x to 1x Powered Riser Adapter Card w/ 60cm USB 3.0 Extension Cable & 6 Pin PCIe to SATA Power Cable – GPU Riser Adapter Extender Cable

Video Card (GPU): EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC2 GAMING, 8GB GDDR5, iCX Technology – 9 Thermal Sensors & RGB LED G/P/M, Asynch Fan, Optimized Airflow Design Graphics Card 08G-P4-6573-KR

This build should add up to around $1500 as of January 31, 2018. This configuration should be ideal at least through February, although prices are still jumping around for power supplies, memory, and graphics cards due to high demand by other miners.

There are many options to consider, so keep in mind that this is just one build out of countless possibilities, but it should be a good starting point to base your own build off of. Or feel free to copy the entire build and use it for yourself.

If you’d like a FREE custom build proposal for your own budget and requirements, feel free to contact me or comment below. If I have time I’ll put together a parts list like this one just for you and post it on the website.
